Maker Of This Stunning Little Carved Wooden Dog Revealed!

I fell in love with this little carved wooden dog, he was so beautifully made, but had no idea of the maker. 

This little dog had clearly been created by a highly skilled person.

The painting and patina is exquisite too. So I was not surprised  that he was snapped up as soon as I put him up for sale...and I am pleased to say that he is going to a very good home. 

Meanwhile, I would like to thank Rosemary for kindly getting in touch, who saw the little dog on my website, and informed me that it had been made by the workshops of Brockenhurst in the 1930s. She said that he would have been part of a hunting set. 

Subsequently, I thoroughly enjoyed doing a little research on who made this dog, and was delighted to find this brilliant video on YouTube. It tells us a brief story about Frank Whittington and his "Forest Toys" which he set up after the first World War.  The toys were all hand carved and painted by Frank and his team of employees. His workshop/small factory was based in Brockenhurst, a large village set within the New Forest in Hampshire, UK. I found this video absolutely fascinating, so I decided to share it with you. If you watch carefully, you will be able to see some of these little dogs amongst the whole array of animals and figures. Truly magical!!

Why not come along and meet us at the Haddenham Antique & Vintage Fair this Sunday.

It is the first time that I will have exhibited at this monthly event, which I understand is due to have around 75 stand holders of general antique and vintage dealers. Haddenham is a couple of miles from Thame, and a few miles from Aylesbury. 

Just starting to sort out stock for Sunday's fair. 

In addition to the more special pieces displayed on the stand, I  will be bringing several boxes of old dolls house items on Sunday including Dol-Toi, Barton, etc. They will probably have to sit behind the stand, so do please ask if you want a good old rummage! 

My 6ft stand will be packed with many of my antique and vintage dolls house treasures that are currently not on my website. Plus my old mate Robin Britton (of Coombe Crafts & Nostalgia In Miniature Workshops fame) has agreed to come out of retirement to help me for the day. I hope to have a few other real life size antique & vintage bits and bobs for sale too. 

Please note that I will not have the facility to accept debit or credit cards on the day, so it will have to be cash only. 

 

I will also have the "Old Potting Shed Workshop" prototype on display for visitors to see. Places for this July 8th workshop are filling fast, and at the time of writing this post, I currently have just 3 places left. If you are still pondering on whether to book a place on this workshop, then this would give you a good opportunity to see the little project close up and discuss any queries that you may have. 

I have just been told that I will have a wall stand in the foyer on the left, just before you go into the main hall, so you should find me easily. Hope to see you Sunday!

The Old Potting Shed Workshop

 I am delighted to announce that at last the postponed KT Miniatures' Old Potting Shed Workshop has a new date and new venue!

Followers of KT Miniatures will know that originally this workshop was due to take place in 2020 at Denman College, but then Covid came along, and then the sad permanent closure of the college. 

However, all is now ready to get going again at a new Oxfordshire venue. So why not come and spend a day with us in the historic surroundings of the small barn within the Thame Barns Centre, and create a uniquely realistic and nostalgic miniature interior scene of a vintage style potting shed in 1/12th scale. 

Flagstone flooring, stone walls, a wooden console table, slightly dilapidated wall panelling and ceiling all add to rustic and realistic effect.

As part of the project, you will be making various little relevant accessories too to help set the scene. 

Except for the console table, most of the items are made simply from cardboard or card, including the wooden panelling, flagstone flooring, stone bricks, aged vintage style flowerpots and rusty old gardening tools. 

Whether you are an experienced crafter/miniaturist or absolute beginner, we want you to reach your own creative potential and have fun along the way in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Due to the complexity of this project you will not complete the project whilst you are here, but you will have a booklet of instructions as part of your kit to take home, so that you complete your project at your leisure.

A Rare 1930s Pit-a-Pat "Easywork Dresser" & 1950s Kaybot Tureen Of Soup!

 In recent days two items were instantly snapped up as soon as they went up for sale on KT Miniatures website. Unsurprisingly really as they were both rare and very special pieces, plus  remarkably they were both in fantastic condition! They are now in situ in their new separate homes, but I thought I would feature them on here as they are rarely seen.  

c1930s Pit-a-Pat "Easywork Dresser"

How so very "1930s" this piece is, made by Pit-a-Pat and in original condition.  It was described in a 1930s Pit-a-Pat advert as being an "Easywork Dresser", many of us used to call these kind of kitchen cabinets as being "Maid Savers". I grew up with a 1950s version in our draughty old Cotswold stone lodge house. 

This is in its original green painted colour with white painted pull-down flap and worktop.

The dresser measures 3 3/8" wide x 1 3/4" deep x 4 1/2" high. 

The back and base are in the pale green undercoat finish. On the back there is the original red and black Pit-a-Pat square paper label. One can also see "JOAN'S" handwritten on the back...I wonder if she was the original owner back in the 1930s? 

As you can see, there are two upper doors with round metal and mesh vents plus all the doors have original tiny metal handles. The pull down worktop has its original long metal handle. 

The top two doors open to reveal five original mock cannisters. The  "cannisters" are just one piece of green paper with black detail including black lettering, which is fixed to a long piece of wood that is stuck to the shelf. The lettering on the cannisters is as follows: TEA, COFFEE, RICE, RAISONS & SAGO. 

The flap pulls down to reveal a useful worktop and additional storage space behind. 

On the lower half of the cupboard there are two opening doors, again with original metal handles. 

The lucky new owner is going to have great fun filling this dresser.

1950s Kaybot Plaster Tureen Of Soup

Here is a rare Kaybot plaster tureen of soup, that comes in its original musty yellow painted colour,  with green and red  wavy lined decoration  around the sides. 

Also, around the rim there is an exquisite hand painted green wavy line and red dotted decoration. The naivety of the decoration adds to the charm. The soup itself is a kind of reddish colour, so am assuming this is possibly meant to be tomato soup? 

There is a handle each end with green lined detail. 

It measures 1 3/4" long x 1 1/8" wide x just over 1/2" high. Underneath it appears that the usual Kaybot ink stamp has more or less been rubbed off over time. But overall, this little gem is in a wonderful played with condition, absolutely no cracks or damage which is amazing since this dates to the early 1950s.
